  • Grateful for the 2018 SBC Pastors’ Conference
  • It was a joy to serve as President of the 2018 SBC Pastors’ Conference in Dallas this past week.

The conference theme was, “Fulfill Your Ministry.” Our goal was to challenge and encourage pastors and church leaders to be faithful to their calling to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in and through local church.

As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. – 2 Timothy 4:5

I am deeply grateful for the Southern Baptist Convention body electing me as president of the Pastor’s Conference in Phoenix last year and for the opportunity to serve our pastors, church leaders, and SBC messengers by leading the conference.

All the glory goes to God for this year’s conference!

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!– Psalm 115:1

Any human credit for the success of the conference goes to the Shiloh Church in Jacksonville/Orange Park (FL), where I serve as Pastor-Teacher. The intercessory prayer, generous giving, and loving service of this great congregation made it happen. I love my church!

A core team from our church staff did all the work. Literally. This team includes Joe Pace, Daniel Beckwith, Nicole Clark, Alan Wise, Danita Matthews, and Pearl Winslow. I cannot fully express my thanks for their labor of love, which enabled conference planning and preparation to move forward, as I continued to give my attention to preaching and teaching.

I am also grateful for the scores of volunteers from the Shiloh Church who served in preparation for and during the conference, along with our church staff.

In particular, let me thank Joe Pace and the Shiloh Church band, worship leaders, and choir. A hundred members traveled to Dallas and led all the music for the pastor’s conference. To be honest, most of the compliments I have received about the conference have been about the music!

The Pastors Conference is primarily a preaching conference. The goal is to minister to pastors through the preaching of the word. We had twelve dynamic speakers – Juan Sanchez, James Merritt, Tony Evans, Bryan Carter, Cameron Triggs, Jack Graham, Robert Smith, Frank Pomeroy, Ray Pritchard, Davin Watkins, Charlie Dates, and J.D. Greear.

I appreciate the sacrifice and service these men of God made to minister to the Pastor’s Conference. Their faithful, biblical, and powerful preaching was a great blessing to us all!

Special thanks to Tony Evans and the Oak Cliff Bible Church of Dallas, whose choir members and ushers served with us during the conference. We owe you a debt of gratitude for your service, partnership, and fellowship!

We are also grateful for all of our conference sponsors and those who gave to help with conference expenses!

Danny Wood, Pastor of the Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham (AL) is the 2019 Pastors’ Conference President. Please join us in praying for and his team, as they prepare to minister to us next year in Birmingham.
