Saturday Shout-Outs: VBS, Wichita, & Ministry Links

Thanks for reading my blog. Here are my Saturday Shout-Outs for this week.

Sat Shout Out_bubble_black

A big shout-out to the Shiloh Church staff and volunteers for serving our children this week during the 2014 Vacation Bible School. You make it happen!

Shout-out to Pastor Terrance Floyd and the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church of Wichita, KA. It was a blast to have the opportunity to preach to you again. This congregation is twelve years old. And I have had the joy of preaching to them ten of those years.

Two nights of the meeting, a local pastor named Kent brought young men from his church to hear me. He knew of me through links on Tim Challies’ site. Thanks Kent for your prayers and encouragement.

Hope to see you at the SBTS Expositors Summit – October 29-31, 2014.

There will also be a pre-conference: “Tell Your Story”: Expositional Preaching in the African-American Church

CIS-Conf-logo-20142The Cutting It Straight Expository Preaching Conference is a little more than two months away. It will be held September 24-26, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. Good day! And thanks for reading my blog. Saturday Shout-Outs is my weekly bulletin board of things I find helpful to share.

Sat Shout Out_bubble

photoThe 2014 E.K. Bailey Preaching Conference was fantastic! The theme was Preaching 360: Old Testament Edition, which focused on helping preachers properly deal with the different genres of the Old Testament.

It was a joy to hear great preaching and teaching from Bryan Carter, Steven J. Lawson, William Curtis, Kevin Smith, Chuck Fuller, L.A. Kessee, and many others.

This year, the conference honored my pastor, Melvin V. Wade Sr., as a living legend. And it was honor to pay tribute to my pastor, who has been a father to my wife and I for our entire marriage.

A big shout-out to our conference host, Pastor Bryan Carter, and the Concord Church, for the great sacrifice you make annual to host this meeting and serve attendees in such a wonderful way. We can’t for next year’s conference!

CIS-Conf-logo-20142You still have time register and make plans to attend the Cutting It Straight Expository Preaching Conference in Jacksonville, September 24-26, 2014. We plan to focus on the basics of expository preaching – providing help in both Bible exegesis and sermon preparation. It will be three days of model expositional preaching, practical breakout sessions, engaging panel discussions, and wonderful fellowship around the word of God. All are welcome! Hope to see you there.

On PreachingI am a proponent of writing complete sermon manuscripts, whether you take it to the pulpit or not. Diligent study can result in flat sermons if you do not think through what you want to say and how you want to say it. It is not enough to have an outline and then basically wing it from there. Write yourself clear. – H.B. Charles Jr., On Preaching, p. 66
