Dr. A.B. Sutton Jr. Speaking @ Shiloh Tonight

Tonight at 7 PM, the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church will be having our annual Midyear Tune-Up Service.

At this midyear point, we pause as a congregation to praise God for what he has done in the first half of 2012 and pray to God for the remainder of 2012.

The Lord has been faithful to us. Personally and corporately, we have much to thank God for. And we are expecting God’s greater blessings on our lives and labor for him in the months to come.

Our guest speaker will be Dr. A.B. Sutton Jr., who is the founder and pastor of the Living Stones Temple in Birmingham, Alabama.

Pastor Sutton is an outstanding preacher of the gospel. He is a much in-demand speaker for various Christian events around the country. And the Lord is doing great things in and through the Living Stones Church, which is not yet two years old.

Dr. Sutton was our guest speaker last year. He richly blessed us with a message from Psalm 3 (I love the psalms!) And we are honored and excited to have him to worship with us and minister the word of God to us again.

If you are in the Jacksonville area, and you do not have a church home or your church does not have a scheduled meeting, please join us for this special celebration of worship.

You can watch the live stream of the worship service at 7 PM EST through www.smbcjax.com

Please remember this tonight’s service in your prayers.

SMBC Fall Church Institute

Today begins our first Fall Church Institute at the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church.

The Church Institute will be three nights (Sept. 27-29) or Bible preaching and teaching, corporate worship, and spiritual renewal.

At 6 PM, there will be classes on various aspects of Christian discipleship, which will include classes for children, youth, young adults, singles, men, women, and financial stewardship. Several local pastors and professors will lead classes on Church History, and Old and New Testaments surveys.

At 7 PM, there will be a time of corporate worship. Our guest speaker will be the Dr. John Adolph of the Antioch Baptist Church of Beaumont, TX. Pastor Adolph was one of our guest speakers for our Wednesdays in the Word in February 2010. The Lord used him in a great way to bless and encourage our congregation. We trust that the Lord will use him over these three nights to minister the word.

Maurice Griffin from Chicago will be our guest soloist each night. Maurice was a contestant on BET’s Sunday’s Best competition. I did not hear him on the show, which I do not watch! But I had the privilege of hearing this young man at a conference in Dallas this past summer. And I was blessed by the two occasions I had to hear him sing. I am glad to have him as our guest.

I am really looking forward to these three nights. And I pray that our congregation will be enriched and edified by the ministry of the word.

Please cover these nights in believing prayer.

Notes from Sundays – 08/22/10

It was a good day of worship and fellowship today at Shiloh. The Lord blessed both of our services today in a special way.

We had quite of few guests in worship with us today. Some were special guests – teachers and administrators from local schools. And others who were invited by our members. However, they got there today, I was glad to have them in worship. For the record, a church cannot grow if no guests are attending.

When is the last time you personally invited someone to church?

Praise God for the one who was baptized today.

Our young adult chorale and youth choir led the musical praise today. It is always encouraging to have our young people serving in worship.

Deacon Harold Simmons, a member of the 8th Street Baptist Church of Kansas City and president of the Laymen’s Department of the National Baptist Convention, USA Inc., led a special class for our men today during our Bible Study Fellowship time. Deacon Simmons was with us this week to speak at our Deacons’ retreat. He was a blessing to our men all weekend.

In our 10 AM worship service, we held a special time of prayer for the school administrators, teachers, and students who begin classes tomorrow. As always, my prayer is that our children will grow as Jesus grew – in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man (Luke 2:51).

Pastor Kenneth A. Duke, who has served the New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church in MIami, was our guest speaker today. He preached from Habakkuk 3:17-19 in both services. He entitled the message, “I Still Have Joy!” It was a very encouraging message.

I met Pastor Duke a few years ago, as we were both preaching in Oklahoma City. It was during that meeting that I heard him preach for the first time. I have followed his ministry since then. And I have a great respect and appreciation for him. It was an honor and blessing to have him minister the word to our church family today.

Habakkuk is a Minor Prophet with a major message! My faith is always stretched in great and unique ways when I read or hear this book.

Praise God for those who were saved and added to the church today.

I cannot describe how good it was today to sit under the teaching of the word and to join the saints in being ministered to today. Most Sundays, I am preaching in worship. Today was a rare treat to be under the teaching of the word today.

Not being scheduled to preach today, I was all more prayerful today for my brothers who had to stand today to declare the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

I have a compulsion. Before I was out of church three hours, I was thinking about the next sermon I have to preach on this Wednesday night. Woe unto me if I do not preach!

Throughout the day, I have been thinking that the real strength of a church is not found in what happens on Sundays, but on what happens between Sundays.

Just in case you did not know, NFL football has begun. I know it’s only preseason. But I am enjoying the games anyway. I am ready to get the season started and cheer the Dallas Cowboys onto a Superbowl championship!

Wondering what AFC team will meet the Cowboys in the Superbowl. Any predictions?

Notes from Shiloh’s 135th Anniversary Sunday

Today we celebrated 135 years of God’s faithfulness to the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church. What a church! What a history!! What a God!!!

Our media team prepared a brief video highlighting the history of our church. It was a wonderful testimony to the faithfulness of God to and through this wonderful local church.

Today’s worship was very encouraging to me. I believe our dreams are greater than our memories.

May the Lord be pleased to use Shiloh to spread the gospel and make disciples in a even greater way until Jesus returns!
I am especially grateful today for all our volunteers who serve at Shiloh. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. You make it happen!

Praise God for those who were baptized today.

I led an “old school” number with the choir today, “Rise Up and Walk,” by Rev. Milton Brunson and the Thompson Community Singers. I enjoyed leading in the musical praise and singing with our choir.

All of the music was uplifting today.

Pastor Keelan Atkinson of the Word Reformed Baptist Church of Greensboro (NC) was our guest speaker today.

I still “blame” Keelan for me being at Shiloh (LOL!). He is the one who repeatedly encouraged Shiloh’s chairman to look me up and invite me to preach.

Keelan preached from Jonah 1 during the 8 AM meeting and from Philippians 3 in the 10 AM service. Both messages were timely, challenging, and encouraging.

Praise God for those who were saved and added to the church today.

Today was the first Sunday I have not preached (somewhere) since my installation as Shiloh’s pastor in November 2008. It felt weird at first. But I really needed it. I cannot describe what it meant for me to worship with my congregation today and sit under the word preached with them.

Lord willing, I will resume our study of the Ten Commandments next Sunday with a message entitled, “Making Time for God” (Exodus 20:8-11).

I took daughter Natalie out for a date this afternoon. We had a good time. But she wished her big brother was with us. That’s love!

Thanks for praying for me this past week as I preached the citywide revival in Buffalo. It was a great week of worship, ministry, and fellowship.

Please pray for our Make a Difference Day 2010 that will take place this Saturday. We plan to blitz the city of Jacksonville with good works that will demonstrate the love of Christ (Matthew 5:16).

John R. Adolph Speaking at Shiloh Tonight

Tonight brings to an end our Wednesdays in the Word 2010 series at the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church.

Our guest speaker will be Dr. John R. Adolph, senior pastor of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas.

I have known Pastor Adolph for more than 10 years. We met as we preached together for his uncle. I have been greatly encouraged to watch the Lord’s hand on his life and ministry over the years.

God is doing great things through Pastor Adolph’s ministry within his local church and around the country. And I am excited to introduce him to the Shiloh Church family tonight.

If you are in the Jacksonville area – and your local church does not have a meeting scheduled – please join us for worship tonight at Shiloh at 7 PM. If you are not able to attend, join us only at www.smbcjax.com.

we are excited to have Dr. William H. Curtis – Senior Pastor of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Pittsburg and President of the historic Hampton’s Minister’s Conference – as our guest speaker.

Joel C. Gregory Preaching @ Shiloh Tonight

Tonight, we will continue our series of special services at Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church that we call Wednesdays in the Word.

Last week, Dr. Ralph Douglas West of the Church Without Walls in Houston blessed us in a great way through the ministry of the word.

We are grateful and honored to have Dr. Joel C. Gregory as our special guests tonight.

Dr. Gregory is a former pastor, itinerant preacher, seminary professor, author, and mentor of preachers. In fact, last night he did a seminar on contemporary preaching that was very challenging, encouraging, and beneficial for our associate preacher, Bible study leaders, members and guest pastors who joined us.

If you are in the Jacksonville area, please join us tonight at Shiloh at 7 PM. You can also view the service through www.smbcjax.com or www.streamingfaith.com.

May the Lord be glorified by the worship of the saints and the preaching of the word tonight.

Ralph Douglas West Speaking @ Shiloh

Tonight begins a series of services at Shiloh Church that we are calling “Wednesday in the Word.” The goal of these services is to encourage spiritual renewal for the new year to the glory of the God.

Our guest speaker tonight will be Dr. Ralph Douglas West, founder and pastor of the Brookhollow Baptist Church in Houston – better known as The Church Without Walls.

Having led The Church Without Walls for more than twenty years, Dr. West is an author, seminary professor, and a much sought after speaker.

Ralph West is a faithful, powerful, and compelling preacher of the word of God. And we are blessed to have him as our guest speaker tonight at SMBC.

Please pray for tonight’s service that Christ will be exalted, the saints will be built up in their faith, and lost people will be drawn to saving-faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
