R.A. Williams Jr. Interview

n1440714769_30435593_735851-200x300Dr. R.A. Williams, Jr. is the Pastor of the McCoy Memorial Baptist Church in Los Angeles, where he has served for more than 30 years. Pastor Williams is also the President of WHW Ministries, which hosts an annual conference of preaching in Los Angeles.

I was a teenager when I first heard Dr. Williams preach. It was a powerful exposition of John 3:16. I followed his ministry afterwards, looking to him as a model of exposition preaching in the African-American church. Without knowing him very well, Dr. Williams mentored me from afar. And he was very kind to me over the years that I served in Los Angeles.

Following is an interview with R.A. Williams about his life and ministry. Enjoy!

Dr. Charles, i need to say thank you for this interview for a few reasons. #1 Dr. Williams has always been a blessing to me, my life & my ministry. I don’t think he knows it but he once preached a sermon that changed the course of my life forever & is probably the reason I’m still alive today. #2 as my minisrty is currently in what is a strange place to me again he’s blessed me by reminding me that I’m not the 1st nor the last to feel this way & to not think it strange. #3 I thank you because your blog & these interviews have been the closest things to the conversations & the prayer from Pastor Jackson that Dr. Williams spoke about in my life & ministry. #4 & finally for the reminder that like Job many of my questions may never be answered but He’s God & I’m not & He still loves me (us) & He does have a plan. My job is to just trust Him. Thank you again & God bless you.

I enjoyed this interview. I met Pastor Williams at the first COBE in Anaheim CA and we talk about being from Houston, He was from third ward and I am from second ward; he was very gracious. Thank you Pastor Charles for all the great interviews and in the new year I am waiting for DR. A.L. Patterson Jr. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

This was a great interview. I met R.A. Williams In 2010 when I went down to WHW with my pastor at that time, Raymond Martin Jr.. I was completely humbled at the fact of how little I really understood about expository preaching, and grateful that I had went. I missed it this year but plan to go again in 2014. What I got most out of this interview was his advice to young preachers to trust God, knowing that he has a plan for you has He is developing you. Now I am not a young preacher but the advice applies to me as well. Thank you H.B. for another great interview of one of our great spiritual giants of this time.
