  • Notes from Sunday – 07/08/12
  • Welcome to my new readers! Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy the posts and find them helpful.

I write “Notes from Sunday” each week about my day of worship. I reflect on the day and the events around it. I also comment on stuff that caught my attention over the weekend. (Translation: Sports!)

I taught Bible Study Fellowship today for the first time in weeks. I called the lesson, “How to Minister to God.” I miss teaching this class.

Praise God for those who were baptized this morning.

We had a lot of guests in worship today. Way cool.

I preached the final “I Am” Statement of Jesus in John 15:1-5. I called the message: “Living a Fruitful Life.”

Jesus explains the process of spiritual fruit-bearing:

    I.     Recognize that God is the vine dresser.

II.     Realize that Jesus is the true vine.

III.     Remember that you are just a branch.

This is the second week I have had my planned message to leave me on Sunday morning. It is also the second week I have overslept. And I don’t sleep on Saturday nights! I have no idea what that’s about.

I did not intend to preach this sermon today. But God knows what he’s doing. I needed it. And I believe the church needed it.

John 15:1-5 is the passage I preached the day I announced to Mt. Sinai that I accepted the call to be the new pastor of Shiloh.

Well, “preached” is a strong word. I tearfully mumbled something about this text for ten minutes at the 8 AM service, 15 minutes at the 10 AM service.

I couldn’t help be think about this as I argued today that God plants us where he knows we can grow the best.

Praise God for those who were saved and added to the church today.

    It’s hot!

We went swimming this afternoon. (Correction: I swim. The kids swim. Crystal holds on to the side of the pool.)

Serena Williams won her 5th Wimbledon Championship yesterday morning. Then, yesterday afternoon, she won a doubles championship with her big sister Venus. Wow!

After winning his third tournament last weekend, Tiger Woods failed to make the cut this weekend. What’s up with that?

This afternoon, Roger Federer defeated Andy Murray to win his seventh Wimbledon title. Happy for Federer. Sad for Murray.

Ray Allen is going to the Miami Heat. Let the church say, “Repeat!”

Steve Nash is going to the Los Angeles Lakers. This would have been a great trade five years ago!

Fun fact; Since Kobe Bryant starting playing for the Lakers, no one on the team has averaged more the 3.5 assists per game. Hmmm. Let’s see have this works out.

Saturday night, Nonita Donaire defeated Jeffrey Mathebula in a 12-round unanimous decision. Donaire is a good boxer. Keep an eye on him.

I hear there was a big MMA fight Saturday night. That’s all I know about it.

Tomorrow night is the MLB Home-Run Derby. Tuesday night is the all-star game. Now is the time to start paying attention to baseball.

Three words: The Amazing Spider-Man!!! (Is that three words or four?)

How was your day of worship?
