Notes from Sunday – 3/25/12

We had a good day of worship and fellowship at Shiloh today.

Yesterday was Hailey’s birthday. She turned four-years-old. You would think she turned twenty-five.

In my Bible Study Fellowship class, I continued my study of the attributes of God with a lesson “The Sovereignty of God.” The lesson argues the truth and scope of divine sovereignty. I was not able to finish the lesson today. But I really had a great time study this important subject with my “class.”

I am grateful for all the guests who were in worship with us today.

Praise God for those who were baptized today.

We had our parent-child dedications today. May the children we prayed for today grow as Jesus grew (Luke 2:52).

Hat tip to Brodes for filling in today.

The ensemble did a Thompson Community Singers number this morning. Love the Tommies!

I planned to continue my study of 1 John today with a message entitled “Overcoming Worldliness” (1 John 2:15-17).

About two hours before church, Psalm 90 gripped me and would not let me go.

I have meditated on Psalm 90 for the past several weeks. I taught it at our Men’s Prayer Breakfast several earlier this month. And I taught I preached it at our Midweek Worship Service this past Wednesday. But I could not get it out of my system. So I took a shot at it again today.

I called the message “All His Hands.” I argued that life (90:1-2), death (90:3-6), judgment (90:7-12), and grace (90:13-17) are in the hands of God.

Praise God for those who were saved and added to the church today!

Congratulations to Tiger Woods on the big win today.

I cannot believe that the Jacksonville Jaguars did not do whatever it takes to acquire the services of Tim Tebow. I guess they the new owner wants to keep the tarp of the upper deck of seats.

At the same time, I cannot believe the New York Jests acquired the services of Tim Tebow. I wouldn’t want to be Mark Sanchez.

I think it is cool that Peyton Manning is the new quarterback of the Denver Broncos. It will still be difficult to see him in anything but a Colts uniform.

The NFL came down hard on the Saints for their bounty program. Do you think the punishment fits the crime?

The Miami Heat were beat down by the OKC Thunder tonight. We will see them again soon. It will be a different story then.

I am saddened and perplexed by the Trayvon Martin situation. Don’t know what to say yet.
